The authorities of the University of Ilorin in Kwara State have expelled Olanrewaju AbdulKadir, a 100-level student, for allegedly demanding a ransom from the parents of his missing colleague.
According to a news report, AbdulKadir’s expulsion was confirmed in the university’s weekly bulletin, signed by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun. The expelled student, with matriculation number 22/52HL004, was enrolled in the Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences.
Additionally, the university has rusticated Segun Michael Oyewole, a 400-level student, for beating a female fellow student. Oyewole, from the Department of Counsellor Education, Faculty of Education, has been rusticated for one academic session.
Meanwhile, the University of Ilorin has also announced the promotion of 16 of its senior academics to the rank of Professor.
Their elevation, following the recommendations of the University Appointments and Promotion Committee and with the approval of the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, SAN, recognises their exceptional achievements in teaching, research, and community service.
A statement from the Office of the Registrar said that the 16 distinguished scholars were found to have excelled in the realms of teaching, research and community service.
The breakdown of the beneficiaries of the promotion exercise shows that three of the new Professors are produced by the Faculty of Clinical Sciences and they are Prof. John Kola Olarinoye, Prof. James Ayodele Ogunmodede, and Prof. Simeon Kayode Olubiyi.
The Faculty of Education produced Prof. Abdulrahman Suyuti Omosidi, who teaches at the Department of Educational Management.
Two lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology were also elevated to the rank of Professor and are Prof. Kamorudeen Olaniyi Yusuf and Prof. Habeeb Adewale Ajimotokan.
