Baruten Local Government Area is located in Kwara State, North Central Nigeria, with its headquarters in the town of Kosubosu. Baruten LGA shares a border with the Republic of Benin and consists of numerous towns and villages, including Gwanara, Yawoji, Zume Buran, Kemanji, Moshe, Sumaji, Tori Gandu, Tungan Sabi, and Ilesha.
The primary language spoken in Baruten is Batonu, with other languages including Yoruba, French, Pidgin, Hausa, and Fulani. Covering an area of 9,749 square kilometers, Baruten LGA had a population of 209,459 as of the 2006 census. Notable landmarks in the area include Shaki Hospital and parts of the Borgu Game Reserve.
Baruten is renowned for two major festivals, Gani and Dokoru. Chikanda, the border town, is also notable for its oil importation and exportation activities.
