A 40-year-old butcher, Ibrahim Alabi, along with a driver, Muritala Adio, and two others, Abdulrafiu Balode and Rafiu Anafi, have been arraigned in a magistrates’ court in Ilọrin South LGA of Kwara State for the theft of a cow and handling stolen property.
The police First Information Report (FIR) detailed that, acting on credible information about some dubious activities among butchers in the Ilorin metropolis, operatives raided Alabi’s residence in the Oloje area, where a suspected stolen bull was recovered.
The statement reads in part: “But you claimed to have bought the cow through the other suspects at the rate of N370,000 against its market value of N1.4m.
“Investigation revealed that you, Ibrahim Alabi, paid the sum of N20,000 to Muritala Adio who took the cow with your vehicle, a green Volkswagen Golf with registration: BDU 822 AA, to your house.”
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the suspects.
However, the defence counsel, Toyin Onaolapo, rejected the prayer.
The Magistrate, Dayo Ifalokun, granted the accused bail and adjourned the case to May 27, 2024.
