Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) on Tuesday said it would conduct the September 21 council election through manual process.
It said for reasons best known to it, KWSIEC would not use electronic voting, adding: “There will not be electronic transmission of results either.”
The Chairman, Mohammed Okanla, said this in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, during a stakeholders’ forum KWSIEC organised ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.
“We have put in place measures to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, from voter register to the final declaration of results. We are committed to transparency and accountability in every step of the process.
“As we prepare for the coming local government elections, it is vital to recognise their importance in our democratic system. Local government elections are the foundation of our democratic structure, providing citizens with the power to elect leaders, who will directly affect their everyday lives.”
State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Babatunde Mohammed, called on the electoral umpire to provide a level playing field for political parties before, during and after the election.
